Hi and welcome to my channel. In this video, I will talk about how you can start your blog and make a killing from day one!
If you always wanted to start your own website or a blog then this is the video for you. But if you are looking for free blog hosting or want to start just another blog that looks just like thousands of other blogs out there then this video is not for you. The solutions I talk about in this video will cost you a little bit of money but rest assured, your blog will look awesome from day one. So, if your dream is to start an awesome blog, have lots of followers and you want to make big money, then this video is for you. Now, let’s get started.
The first thing you need before you even start a blog is a long-term plan. Sometimes you can go with your whim and take your idea from there. But in most cases that’s not very practical. Blogging is not something that gives you fame overnight. But it’s one of those things that you actually have to work on regularly to maximize your success. So, if you iron out what your blog topic is and why you want to pursue this goal long-term, your daily activities will not feel like work but you will actually enjoy the process. For example, the videos I make for you feel effortless. Because I have a very long-term vision with this video blog and any short term setbacks I experience, doesn’t really bother me. So, you want to start with why do you want to create this blog and where do you want your blog to be in 5 years or 10 years from today!
The next part in starting an awesome blog consists of technical things you have to do. So, basically a blog needs a .com domain name, a web hosting provider and a blogging software. There are many solutions other there but I found that when you have a web hosting provider with the WordPress blogging software installed, it will make your life a whole lot easier. And also, there are thousands of plugins and themes for WordPress which you can use to customize your blogging experience. But unfortunately, some tailored websites like Square Space or Wix can limit the full potential of your blog! So, in terms of hosting and a domain name, I strongly suggest you go with companies like Dreamhost, Hostgator or Bluehost to get started. These guys will give you a .com domain name for free along with bunch of other stuff like email accounts, WordPress and makes it a snap to install other tools.
Then after you have signed up for web hosting and have WordPress installed, you want to customize your WordPress website with certain things. So, the first thing you want to do is actually install SSL certificates on your domain. Basically, it secures your website and gives more privacy to your visitors. Search engines nowadays prefer websites with SSL certificates installed and they tend to build more trust with your readers. SSL certs can cost anywhere from 10 dollars to over 500 dollars per year. But for a brand new website, a 10 dollar certificate would be just fine. Usually, companies like Hostgator or Dreamhost makes it super easy for you to install them. So, don’t panic and just send them an email asking or check their help section to see how you can install WordPress and then install SSL certs on it.
Some people might say that you don’t need SSL or you don’t need WordPress to get started. And to a certain extent they might be right. But when you are competing with thousands of other blogs, these little things can make a huge difference to your search engine rankings and overall trust the reader has on your blog. And on top of it, a domain name with hosting, dedicated IP and a SSL certificate shouldn’t cost you any more than $100 dollars per year. It’s the least you can invest for your blog.
Ok, now that you have your blog setup with SSL and WordPress, it’s time for you to really customize the look and feel of your blog. WordPress does come with some really good themes but I found that if you install premium theme, it’s usually much better. And some of the premium themes give you really cool ways to customize your blog. So, what you want to do is go to themeforest.com and buy yourself a really cool WordPress theme that matches the type of content or audience you have in mind. These themes can cost from anywhere from $20 dollars to $60 dollars. But I think it’s a great one time investment to create an outstanding blog!
So, after your blog is running, you have SSL, you have an awesome theme, you want to set a schedule to add contents on your blog. The bulk of the work to setup your WordPress blog should be done by now. And the only thing left to do is add contents on a regular basis. Don’t make the mistake of trying to make your blog an overnight success. It doesn’t work like that and it takes a bit of time for your blog to catch up on Google or the social media. You certainly, can write a blog post and share on your Facebook page or make related videos on YouTube but I found that it’s better to focus on one thing at a time. In another video I will cover in depth how to bring more traffic to your blog but 80% of your success will depend strongly on your passion to create high quality contents and building relationships with other bloggers. Don’t just spam other blogs and hope people will come to your website. Make it a habit to comment on various blogs, youtube videos and participate in various social media channels so people will see your blog as an authority rather than another spammer trying to make few quick bucks online.
Anyhow, to give you a quick recap of what you need to do. First, clearly define why you want to start your blog and where do you see yourself with this blog in the next 5 years or 10 years. Next, sign-up with a web hosting company and get the most basic package you can find. That should give you a free domain name, hosting and blogging tools like WordPress. Next, ask your hosting company to install a Dedicated IP and a SSL certificate. Then, customize your blog by installing a custom theme from Themeforest and finally, make it a habit to write on your blog on a consistent basis. A blog without quality content is pointless and Google is usually very smart to recognize that just by observing how often you are putting out quality contents.
In future videos, I will cover what are quality contents, how to make them and some of the strategies you can use to market your blog to bring in more readers. So, Subscribe to my channel right now to get a notification as soon as the videos are released. Until then, thanks for watching!
